Practice Makes You Better
To develop skill with a whip I have learned techniques from a variety of people and have also needed to practice regularly. For the first couple of years, I would practice at least ten minutes every day to develop muscle memory, accuracy and familiarity with how the whip moves. I practiced the specific throws I had learned and sometimes I would sit in front of the TV flicking the whip and getting used to how the whip handled if I held it with the curve one way, then the other way. I also practiced in two or three longer sessions each week.

I like to practice in a park, although lately I have been practicing at the gym. They have a large room which is normally used for step aerobics and Yoga so I asked the Director if I could use this room to work out with my whips. I told her that I am into Sport Whip cracking and mentioned that I use the whips therapeutically to work out my shoulders, forearms and upper torso. She watched my whip workout and agreed to let me use the room. What I like best about the room is that there are no lamps to knock over and neither cats to intrigue nor dogs to scare. Also, there are wall to wall mirrors which allow me to observe my whip technique more closely.
